I bought a loaf of sliced white bread. Very good bread it is, but nothing out of the ordinary. Yet there are indications of its being marketed in 60 countries. At any rate, this is how many flags there are on the wrapping.

Bread, bread, bread

Now in Hebrew ‘bread’ is לחם leħem (as in בית-לחם bêt-leħem Bethlehem ‘House of Bread’). And indeed you can see the letters לl–חħ–םm beneath the Israeli flag. In this order, left to right.

It looks as though the word was first written in a right-to-left–aware word processor, then fed into an older version of the software that lacked such awareness.

According to the dictionary, מחל maħal means ‘sickness’ in Hebrew.

How does the bread sell in Israel, I wonder?

Update: To the company's credit be it said, they've corrected the Hebrew inscription (though not the other errors).
