Alenka v kraji divů

Having bought a bilingual (!) edition of Alenka v kraji divů (tr. by Aloys a Hana Skoumalovi), am checking out the puns. Many have been lost, to be sure (this is an untranslatable book). But here is a good one:

‘[…] You see the earth takes twenty-four hours to turn round on its axis—’ ‘Talking of axes,’ said the Duchess, ‘chop off her head!’

„[…] Země se točí kolem osy za čtyřiadvacet hodin a za ten časový úsek —“ „Dobře žes mi to připomněla,“ řekla Vévodkyně, „usekněte jí hlavu!“

And here's a bonus—one where they've out-Carrolled Carroll:

‘She's under sentence of execution.’ ‘What for?’ said Alice. ‘Did you say “What a pity!”?’ the Rabbit asked. ‘No, I didn't,’ said Alice. ‘I don't think it's at all a pity. I said “What for?”’

„Má být popravena.“ „Její škoda,“ řekla Alenka. „Říkáš, že je jí škoda?“ zeptal se Králík. „Vůbec jí není škoda,“ odpověděla Alenka. „Řekla jsem, že to je její škoda, že má být popravena. A za co?“

‘If any of them can explain it, […] I'll give him sixpence. I don't believe there's an atom of meaning in it.’

„Jestli mi to některý z nich vysvětlí, […] dám mu šesták. Já v tom ani kouska smyslu nevidím.“

(I understand a šesták was some kind of coin in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.)
