Check out the CyberCity Schachforum's Wörterbuch spezieller Schachbegriffe — an Englisch–Deutsch and German–English glossary of chess terms.
What is so remarkable about it? Well, not much, except … it glosses spanische Variante as that's all Greek to me (and vice versa on the other side).
Why does that sound as though they meant spanische Dörfer?
