I don't mind when my workplace takes advantage of my skill in using the English tongue with style, beauty and power.

But.

For the jubilee booklet every section had to contribute a description of itself. Why didn't the management, primo, circulate an instruction as to how this should be done (with a style sheet and a glossary), and secundo, collect the chapters and have me edit them in some reasonable environment before passing them on for typesetting?

In the event every department wrote their chapter in their own form and image (and their own English), and then the centre handed the collection over to an artist who fed it into some pagemaking program in which editing is nigh impossible and set it in a fount that has neither m-dashes nor accented letters (this in the 21st century).

Now they want me to proofread and correct it. Well, I will. But ye cannae mak' a silk purse oot o' a soo's lug.

И English tongue, и deutsche Zunge.
